Food safety drive organised

A special food safety licensing and registration cum drive was held at Chingmeirong today.
The camp was organised by Food Safety Administration as a part of 'Eat Right Imphal East' under the supervision of Th Sunilkumar Singh, designated officer, Food Safety Administration, Imphal East, said a statement issued by Food Safety Administration.
The programme was attended by 85 FBOs (Food Business Operators) and information leaflets were also distributed to the attending FBOs, added the statement.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) had initiated 'Eat Right India' movement based on three main themes viz if it is not safe, it is not food (Safe Food); food should not only serve the plate but is also meant for body and mind (Healthy diets) and the food should be good for both people and the planet (Sustainable diets).
The statement added that under the Section 63 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, punishment for carrying out a business without license can attract imprisonment for 6 months along with a fine of Rs 5 lakh.
