Imphal, September 11, 2012:
Reacting to the statement of Gurbachan Jagat issued in connection with the foundation day of The Sangai Express and Chief Minister O Ibobi's statement carried in the same edition, the proscribed UNLF has alleged that the statements were uttered without any seriousness just to please their own masters.
It is the Indian military, Manipur police commandos and armed gangs set up by them who are harassing the public including journalists, the outfit asserted in a press release issued by its Senior Publicity Officer Ksh Yoiheiba.
Whenever the Indian military commit all kinds of excesses against the people of Manipur, the State Government could do nothing but watch silently.
The so called elected representatives did not dare face even a petty officer of the Indian military, it alleged.
This was evident during the Oinam carnage of July 9, 1987, Heirangoithing carnage, Patsoi-Langjing massacre, RIMS gate massacre, etc.
SDC N Surendra who collected hard evidence of the Indian military personnel's atrocities at Oinam was picked up by Assam Rifles from the road and killed but his corpse was never found, the outfit alleged.
It was for fear of police commandos that the damning photographs of the killing of Sanjit and Rabina were published in Tehelka, not in the media based at Imphal.
Again, Tehelka correspondents refused to come to Imphal to give their statements before the commission which was investigating the case because of their fear for Manipur police commandos.
It is the alien rule which has been keeping the public of Manipur on tenterhooks, it alleged.
As for CM Ibobi, there is not much to be said.
He has long forgotten his own nation and the question of safeguarding Manipuri identity is something allergic to him.
Rather, he has been working to assimilate the distinctive culture and identity of Manipur with Indian culture.
Ibobi had the audacity to declare, "I would even sacrifice my life" just because he is dependent on Indian money and muscle power.
Ibobi was deducting 20 per cent from all public funds meant for development projects besides selling off power entitled to the State to amass his personal wealth, the outfit alleged.
In the face of strong mass movement to check influx into the State, Ibobi has been maintaining a deafening silence because the Centre has rejected the Cabinet proposal to introduce ILPS in the State.
Had Ibobi spoken a single word to New Delhi boldly in the interest of people, everybody would have appreciated him, it added.
