Pre-paid meters installation near completion in Paona Bazar

The installation of pre-paid electric meters taken up in Paona Bazaar by the State Electricity Department is in its last stage of completion and the work in other parts of Imphal area including Thangal Bazaar has started.
According to information received from Imphal Electrical Division No.I, the pre-paid meters of around 1050 old consumers have already been installed and the installation work for 200 more pre-paid meters for new consumers have been started.
Altogether 1250 pre-paid meters were installed in Paona Bazaar and around 1100 pre-paid meters have been connected with power line.
Along with this, an outstanding due power tariff of Rs 11.2 lakhs have been able to recover so far.

In Thangal Bazaar, around 2100 pre-paid meters have been installed and power connection to around 200 consumers have been ensured so far.
Moreover, a pending power tariff of Rs 1.5 lakhs had been recovered from Thangal Bazaar area.
Altogether, there are 2542 consumers in Thangal Bazaar area.
In Ragailong area, altogether 250 pre-paid meters have been installed and electric meters from 150 old consumers have been collected along with a pending power tariff of Rs 0.85 lakhs.
Around 270 pre-paid connections have been installed in Namdulong and meters from 70 consumers have been collected along with recovering pre-paid amount of Rs 0.4 lakhs.
In Minuthong area, installation of 280 pre-paid metres completed and meters from 150 consumers were collected so far.
A pending amount of Rs 1.2 lakhs has also been recovered from the area.
In North AOC, 130 pre-paid meters have been installed and 90 of them have been given connection so far.
An amount of Rs 17.78 lakhs has also been recovered as electric bills.
For those areas where pre-paid meters have been installed, power is being supplied to the consumers through underground cable wire system.
The electric wires which were previously used over the ground have been removed completely.
The underground electric cable wire from where the consumers are connected is so designed to prevent power theft.
The Vending machine, which is used to recharge electric pre-paid metres is presently installed at Keishampat Power House.
A separate section for the pre-paid system is under construction at the Head Office of the Electricity Department.
The Vending machine would be shifted to this section as soon as the construction process completes.
There are also provisions for installing one Vending machine each at every Electrical Division of the state for the convenience of the pre-paid customers, the report added.
