Facelift for health sector in hill areas on the card

Imphal, June 08 2011: To extend primary health benefits to the remote hill areas of the State, a sum of Rs 50 crores has been earmarked in the current fiscal to construct buildings for primary health centre and primary sub-health centre.

Addressing the gathering at the inaugural function of a primary sub-health centre and Ireima community hall at Ngaikhong Khunou and Oinam Khunou ground respectively today, Health and Family Welfare Minister L Jayentakumar said that the SPF Government is committed to the development of rural areas and the interiors of the hill districts.

Special stress is being laid on education and health in the far flung areas, he added.

The PHSC and the Ireima community hall are located in Oinam Assembly Constituency and they were constructed with the MLA local area development fund of its local MLA Dr I Ibohalbi.

It is in keeping with the priorities of the SPF Government, that a sum of Rs 50 crores has been earmarked to construct PHCs and PHSCs in the hill areas, said Jayentakumar and added that the youngsters of the far flung areas need to get access to health care as well as education.

Once these two requisites are provided to the young children, then will Manipur progress, he added.

Though the law and order situation may be far from satisfactory, the SPF Government is committed to developing the State, said the Health Minister and added that work is underway for a district hospital to come up in Bishnupur.

Plans have also been finalised to start a nursing school in the district.

Echoing the inconveniences faced by the public, the Minister said that he has recieved inputs of Asha workers being denied entry to hospitals by the security guards when they come in the company of expectant mothers.

To avoid such inconveniences, he urged the Asha workers to wear their uniform whenever they go to the hospital.

MLA Dr I Ibohalbi in his address urged the local people to ensure that the newly set health centre and the community hall are kept clean and tidy.

He also expressed satisfaction with the information that a doctor would be detailed for duty at the PHSC once a week.

MLAs RK Anand and U Deben also attended the inaugural function.
