Imphal, December 02 2018:
The Manipur Students' Association Delhi (MSAD) has condemned the action against Keshorchandra Wangkhem following his statements and allegations against the State Government and demanded the Government to release him unconditionally.
It may be mentioned that Keshorchandra was arrested on November 26 after he uploaded a video on social media wherein, he questioned the State Government's agenda of celebrating the birth anniversary of Rani Jhansi in Manipur.
A press release issued by the association claimed that Keshorchandra was released on bail after the Chief Judicial Magistrate L Tonsing found that the video he uploaded did not attract section 124-A and that section 294 and 500 are bailable offences.
However, it continued that Keshorchandra was arrested the next day of his release, without any arrest warrant and even his family was not informed about the reason of the arrest.
MSAD pointed out that the arrested individual has been a harsh critic of the BJP Government's policies in the State, ranging from the humiliating statement of Chief Minister N Biren at the Madhavpur fair, Gujarat on March 29 to the alleged atrocities carried out by the BJP Government during the Manipur University crisis.
He was arrested on August 9 this year for similar act of questioning the BJP Government.
MSAD alleged that the N Biren led 'Hindutva' Government has nothing to offer to the people of the State while adding that the Govt is slowly revealing its fascist character now.
The association further pointed out that the abrupt discontinuation of news analysis and discussion programme, which are usually aired at the 7.30 am segment of AIR under alleged direct order of the BJP Govt clearly indicates the utter distaste of any voice that does not speak the BJP language.
Terming the present Governance as tyrannical, MSAD alleged that the Government is generating a culture of silencing people's voice through its use of arbitrary and draconian law - detaining Keshorchandra under National Security Act is an example.
Expressing its solidarity with the people's struggle for freedom and justice, MSAD urged the people of the State to come out and raise their voice against the undemocratic actions of the BJP Govt.
