Boys fare better than girls in HSLC

Imphal, May 11 2012:
Though boys outshined girls in the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) Examination, 2012, the overall pass percentage recorded even a dismal low this time at 70 as against 71 percentage last year.
A total of 30050 students including 14947 boys and 15103 girls have appeared in the exam, out of which 21147 students cleared the exam.
This included 7051 in 1st division, 12654 in 2nd division and 1442 in 3rd division.
On the performance of Government and private schools, with exception to a lone student from Keishamthong Model High School, who clinched at 9th position, no other students from government schools featured in the first 25 position holders.
Keeping alive the spirit of private schools, Chandam Achouba Singh of St Joseph's School, Sangaiprou stood first position in the merit list with total secured marks of 471 out of 500 with letter marks in MIL, English, Mathematics, Science, and Social Science.
The second position was secured by Chingkhei Wangjam of Don Bosco High School, Langjing, who scored 469 marks with letter marks MIL, English, Mathematics, Science and Social Science, leaving Maibam Valentina Devi of Little Flower School, Imphal contended in the third spot with 467 marks with letters in Manipuri, English, Mathematics, Science and Social Science.
Other position holders are Pravakar Wangkheimayum of Khundrakpam Public School, Khundrakpam (4th position); Nongthombam Thoithoiba Singh of Bethel English School, Nambol and Tampakmayum Marjita of Antartic English School, Yairipok ( jointly shared 5th position); Thounaojam Arnold Singh of Victory High School, Kakching (6th position); Thounaojam Domenkumar of Bethel English School, Nambol, Asish Naoem of St Joseph's School, Sangaiprou and Vivex Thounaojam, also of St Joseph's School (jointly shared 7th position) and Lairikyengbam Naresh of Progressive English School, Wangjing (8th position).
The lone Government school student who could feature among the merit list at 9th position is Chirom Meiraba Meitei of Keishamthong High School, Imphal.
He shared the position with Md Lukaman Yumkhaibam of Little Master English School, Samurou.
The 10th position was also jointly shared by Sarzu Salam of Children's Model Academy, Thanga and Abhinay Thokchom of St Joseph's School, Sangaiprou.
Of the top 25 positions, students of St Joseph's School, Sangaiprou secured in all 12 positions, thus becoming the only school with such outstanding achievement.
St Joseph's School is followed by Little Flower School, Imphal whose students secured in all 8 different positions.
