Members of the Khurai Ahongei Thangjam Nupi Kanglup has appealed the State Government to release Elangbam Ranjit Meitei who was arrested for circulating a video clip allegedly threatening the non-Manipuri shopkeepers at North AOC.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, the Lup's secretary, Khoirom Bidyabati claimed that the unfortunate incident of Khurai Ahong Pung is due to the failure of the State Government to bring any kind amicable solution in connection with the disputed land.
She also asked the Government to settle the present issue, which is pending before the Court, so that such incident never happen in the area in the future.
After the incident took place, the said video clip was circulated in the State through social media like Whatsapp and Facebook on May 25 .
She explained that on the same day, looking after such alarming videos which went viral on social media sis well the tension among the people of the State, Elangbam Ranjit Meitei (55) s/o (L) Chaoba of Khurai Ahong Pung, who is working at a ticket counter located at North AOC, asked some of the shops' owners to close down their shops.
Police personnel of Imphal West district came and arrested Elangbam Ranjit on the evening and took him to Imphal PS after which a large number of womenfolk went to the police station.
When they reached near the police station, a phone call was made by E Ranjit saying that nothing has happened to him and he is waiting to meet the IG after which he will come back home and asked the women to return.
But later at night, when Ranjit failed to return, his family members made a phone call to Ranjit's mobile but it was found switched off and they got information about the case being taken up against him and that he was lodged in the police custody.
Asking why the police is targeting the locals of the State regarding the incident and why the State Government has failed to arrest those who made the video clip, she asked why the police have failed to take up a case and arrest those people who allegedly assaulted some people who went to perform a traditional ritual at Khurai Ahong Pung on May 20 .
