'MANIREDA to electrify inaccessible hilly areas'

Power Minister Thongam Biswajit Singh today inaugurated 100 KWp Solar Photovoltaic (SPV) Power Plant at the Mechanical Engineering Workshop, National Institute of Technology, Manipur Campus at Langol.
The project is being funded by Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) and Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), Government of India and MANIREDA is the implementing agency.
NIT spent only Rs 20 lakh for the solar photovoltaic power plant out of the total estimate cost of Rs 2.53 crore.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Biswajit said that it is a very good initiative of the authorities of the institute to install the solar power plant inside the campus.
He also encouraged the authorities to initiate such more solar power plants inside the campus to meet their daily power demand of 500 KW.
The Minister maintained that without power, industrialisation cannot be successful and power is as important as water to human beings.
In today's world, the use of electronic gadgets has increased manifold gradually increasing power consumption in every household, he added.
He also informed that daily power consumption during peak hour is 180MW and 80-90 MW during off peak hour in the State.
Today the Power Department has managed to reduce control power loss to 28 percent from 44 percent and the department is target ing to reduce power loss at 20 percent by 2018.Biswajit also informed that the entire State will be electrified by December, three months ahead of all hidia target and that MANIREDA has already installed solar plant in far flung areas targeting to electrify all inaccessible hilly areas.
