AMADA destroys Poppy cultivation worth Rs 16 crores

AMADA has successfully destroyed Poppy plants worth Rs 16 crores in different parts of the state since December 21, 2010 till date, Organisation Secretary of All Manipur Anti-Drug Association (AMADA) Konjengbam Meghachandra has proclaimed.
Extracts from Poppy plants are used in manufacturing Heroin, locally known as number 4 .
Talking to media persons today, K Meghachandra said that during this period, the organization has been also been able to seize various materials used for production of drugs, drugs and other stolen items worth Rs 16,86,39,318.Since 2005, AMADA has seized drugs and other related items worth Rs 33,06, 60000.The monetary value of the seizure this year is much higher than the seizures in the last five years.
This is because a number of poppy plantations, which sprang during the intervening period, were destroyed this year.
Meghachandra informed that poppy plantations were destroyed by the organization along with NAB and 46 AR at various places of Churachandpur district, along with NCB and 11 Gurkha Regiment at different parts of Senapati District and along with Custom Division Imphal, NAB,NCB, Saikul Police and 43 AR at Saikul area.
He also informed that the AMADA would be celebrating its 6th Foundation Day tomorrow with G Satyabati, Director Social Welfare Department as Chief Guest.
Ph Phoni Meetei, General Secretary AMADA and K Tembi, Secretary, Drive Committee will also be present at the occasion.
