MLA moots model village

Taking due notice of the all pervading issue of global warming, which has been aggravated by extensive deforestation, MLA Haokholet Kigpen of Saitu AC has appealed to the people to develop Tumunjang Khullen village as a model green village by planting trees and plants all around the village.
He was speaking at the inaugural function of Tumunjang village community hall today which constructed at the cost of Rs 26,49,471 .
He said that many development countries are worried about the issue of
global warming.
If Tumunjang village can be developed as a model village enveloped all over by greenery by planting trees and plants all around it, it can be assumed that the village has made its due contribution in the battle against global warming.
Saying that Saitu AC is a large constituency, Haokholet iterated that it is not easy task to develop the constituency within five years.
He pledged that he would take up many more development works in the constituency in the next term, if elected.
Funds have been invested to 27 villages of the constituency under the International Fund for Agricultural Development.
Many unemployed youths have also been benefited from the Bamboo Development Programme.
A proposal for Rs 5 crores has been submitted for rain water harvesting under the National Mission for Rain Water Harvesting.
This project of rain water harvesting can considerably mitigate the problem of water shortage, he said.
The inaugural function was also attended by Kangpokpi ADC Member Lhunthang Haokip and Additional Deputy Commissioner H Rupachandra.
