Ukhrul, May 19 2012:
The Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) has urged the governor of Manipur in view of the recent government's order on disbursement of old-age pension appealing for exemption of the mandatory opening of bank account by pensioners.
In a memo submitted to the governor, TNL president Solomon Ningshen has called for relaxation of the government's mandatory order on disbursement of old-age pension through bank account in respect of the beneficiaries of Ukhrul district.
The TNL memo, which was submitted through the Ukhrul deputy commissioner on May 17 last, was also copied to the state's chief secretary.
The TNL urged that the physical condition of the old-age pensioners should be taken into consideration before making such order mandatory and to maintain the status quo on the disbursement of the pension.
"There are several beneficiaries who are physically challenged and faced difficulty in mobilityin there cases, the recent government's order is another big problem," it stated.
In view of the recent government's order, the pension disbursement has been put on pending for months together now.
The apex Tangkhul body has also appealed for early release of the pension to the beneficiaries of Ukhrul.
The TNL plead the governor to take necessary action in the matter and intervene in the interest of the aged beneficiaries in the state.
