Imphal, February 19 2013:
Almost all the problems prevailing in the State including the demand for separate home land or administration by certain sections of the society are due to incapability of the elected representatives to redress the grievances of the people under their respective Assembly constituency promptly and efficiently, Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly Th Lokeshwar has exclaimed.
He was speaking on the occasion of launching a website (www.sathoulup) of Sahitya Thoupang Lup at his residence at Keishampat Keisham Leikai here today.
Blaming all the 60 MLAs of Manipur Legislative Assembly for the present chaotic condition in the State, Th Lokeshwar stated that it is because of the weakness of the MLAs in certain assembly constituencies that certain ethnic communities settling in Manipur have started demanding separate land of their own.
"If all the 60 MLAs work on equal footings in administering the State, no community would have ever raised such demands", he said.
The Speaker also pointed out that "MLAs are being elected by the people and there is no reason why the people would not listen to the request of their elected MLAs".
But the emerging scenario clearly shows that the MLAs are totally unfit and have failed in performing their duties.
The Speaker observed stated that media, which plays a big role in disseminating information to the general public, also has a greater role to play in bringing about peace and unity among the various communities of the State.
Just as media highlights the strong and influencing words of the leaders of the State, they also need to carry the developmental and thought provoking speeches and statement made by various renowned persons on front pages, he maintained, adding that the media and the elected representatives of the State need to go together hand in hand with a sense of sacrifice so as to show the right path to the future generation.
Saratchand Thiyam, Advisor of Sahitya Thoupang Lup, who was also present on the occasion, stated that the launching of the website was a long cherished dream of the Lup.
Through the website, the organization would be trying to make known the Meetei script and the Meiteilon to the outside world.
All the ancient Manipuri writings and the life stories of imminent writers of the State would be uploaded in the website, he added.
