Phumdi dwellers object eviction move

Objecting to the move of the government to evict them, Phumdi dwellers of Loktak lake have submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister and warned of launching various intense agitations if the government does not review its decision.
Under the banner of All Loktak Lake Phumdao Hut Dwellers' Progressive Committee, a large number of people, whose main sustenance have been from fishing activities from Loktak, descended at Keishampat and later charged towards the gate of Chief Minister's bungalow to lodge their objection to the government move of evicting the Phumdi dwellers.
However, they were stopped by the police near Post Office and herded off till Nupi Lan complex.
Afterward, some of them were allowed to go and submit their memorandum to the Chief Minister.
Later talking to mediapersons, President of All Loktak Lake Phumdao Hut Dwellers' Progressive Committee N Rameshore informed that the government has notified to the Phumdi dwellers on the eviction move.
So, they have come to lodge their protest against the eviction.
The government should think over what would be the plight of the Phumdi dwellers who depend on fishing activities from Loktak lake if they were to be evicted, Rameshore observed.
Demanding withdrawal of the government decision, he also warned of taking recourse to various intense agitation if the government went ahead with its decision without heeding the cries of the Phumdi dwellers.
