Tamenglong, April 13 2011:
The dry season has severely hit the lives of the people of Tamenglong.
Light rains with lightning and thunder brought smiles to the people, however, it caused havoc when muddy water flowed into the little springs which were serving many lives.
The PHED has been supplying drinking water to a few households along the bazaar line in the district headquarter.
The consumers get drinking water in one or two days in a week.
Huge empty water tanks are found in areas within the district headquarter.
PHED officials were not present for consultations, however, it was learnt that linemen were instructed to look after the water treatment plant.
In the meantime, Tamei Village Authority, Vice Chairman Hotdin Newmei informed through telephone about the hardships faced by people of Tamei due to water scarcity.
He said though there is a water source near Tamei HQs, due to the negligence of the PHED, the people have suffered severely.
He also said that no PDS rice has come to Tamei since last year's ADC election.
Poor villagers in Tamei area have to buy rice from local shops at a higher price.
The village chief also informed that contractors who have withdrawn huge amounts of money have still left the Tamei road in a pitiable condition.
He also stated that many government offices were constructed with no official supervision.
He appealed to all government officials posted at Tamei to be at their stations and to look into the grievances of the people.
