'Tribe recognition is not disunity of Zeliangrong'

Tamenglong, May 09 2012:
"Recognition of Inpui, Liangmai, Rongmei and Zeme as schedule tribe by the government of India is not disunity of the apex body Zeliangrong.
The oneness of the four brothers cannot be separated by getting back the original name of each tribe" .
This was stated many speakers including by Gaikhangam, Home Minister of Manipur at the Rongmei tribe recognition celebration at Tamenglong district HQs today.
Organised under the aegis of Rongmei Naga Council, Manipur, the celebration was graced by Home Minister Gaikhangam and local MLA Jenghemlung Panmei as Chief Guest and President respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, Gaikhangam observed that evolution of language while mixing with other communities is the root cause of losing tribe or uniqueness of oneself.
He noted that recognition of Rongmei tribe is not a new tribe, but getting back the original tribe name.
He appeals all to live peacefully with the other communities in Manipur, particularly in the district and make the society and the state a prosperous and develop one.

MLA of 52-Tamei AC Kikhonbou Newmei, Former Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) Mani Charenamei, former Vice Chairman of HAC and ex-MLA Khangthuanang Panmei as well as Presidents of Inpui Naga Council, Liangmai Naga Council and Zeme Naga Council attended the celebration as special invitees.
Many Zeliangrong leaders including Members of District Council, Tamenglong were also attended on the occasion.
The occasion was also marked by unveiling of a monolith at Haipou Jaduanang Park by the Chief Guest around 11: 20 am today.
The main function was held at Mini Stadium Tamenglong where Thuankubui Kamei, President of Rongmei Naga Council Manipur unfurled the Rongmei flag.
During the celebration, a Ruangmei-English dictionary was released by the Chief Guest.
Varieties of traditional dances were also performed by different dance troupes as part of the celebration.
In the meantime, the stage has been set for joint celebration over recognition of Inpui, Liangmai, Rongmei and Zeme as scheduled tribes at the same venue tomorrow with Home Minister Gaikhangam as Chief Guest.
With arrival of the Home Minister in the district, security has been beefed up at the town area including along Tamenglong- Khongsang road.
