In pursuance of the Suo Moto PIL taken up by Manipur High Court on May 13 against violation of jail manuals and guidelines of Supreme Court by the Central Jails in the State, the Advocate General of Manipur alone appeared before the Court yesterday as the four respondents to whom notices of the PIL were issued represent respective wings of the government having no conflicting interest.
During the court appearance, the Advocate General was directed to file the status report of every jail in the State stating whether functioning as on date or not functioning, and more particularly the report that should be submitted with reference to the inspection report of the District and Sessions Judge, Manipur East on the next hearing of the case.
The Court had also asked the Advocate General to ensure personal presence of the Principal Secretary (Home) and IG Prisons on the next hearing so that appropriate orders can be passed in their presence on this issue.
