Imphal, March 26 2021:
Joint Action Committee Against Forced Construction of Mapithel Dam (JAC-AFCMD) to ban entry of labourers and contractors in Mapithel Dam under Thoubal Multipurpose Project for not providing the due compensation to the villagers promised by the Government.
The above statement was made by Wungreikham Kasar, headman of Sikibung during a press meet held today at Manipur Press Club.
He stated that due to the forceful construction of Mapithel Dam, around 21 villages of the area were affected and the villagers suffered tremendously.
In order to compensate it, the Government promised of providing economic livelihood package and rehabilitation package which have not been fulfilled completely till date.
Out of the 21 villages, only 14 villages have been approved and the compensation of remaining 7 villages namely Sikibung, Thawai Kuki, Siloijang, Resophung, Island, Thangjingpokpi and S Bongjang are still pending, he added.
Coming out strongly against such indifference attitude of the Government, the JAC will ban entry of contractors and labourers in Mapithel Dam and protests will be carried out along Imphal-Ukhrul-Kamjong Road and Imphal Mapithel Dam Road until their demands are fulfilled and further warned of strong form of agitations.
