Maj Jyotin Memorial park inaugurated at Leimakhong

Imphal, December 19 2011:
A park dedicated to the people of Manipur in the memory of late Major L Jyotin Singh, who laid down his life for his colleagues and countrymen on February 26, 2010, was inaugurated by Bina Kumari, sister of late Major Jyotin at 57 Mountain Division, Leimakhong today.
The inaugural function was also attended by GOC, Major General Binoy Poonnen, who unveiled a statue of late Major L Jyotin.
Speaking on the occasion, Major General Binoy Poonnen highlighted the supreme sacrifice made by the fearless Major, an Army Medical Corps Officer, who responded beyond the call of duty with least regard to his personal safety.
The Major General said that the park will be a new source of inspiration for the people of Manipur, a monument of patriotism and selflessness which will groom and inspire the younger generation towards Nationalism and importance of dedication to duty.
Late Major L Jyotin was commissioned into Army Medical Corps on February 15, 2003 .
On February 26, 2010, during a suicide attack by armed terrorists in a hotel in Kabul where the Indian Doctors were residing, the fearless officer challenged one of the terrorists with bare hands, pinned him down and prevented him from lobbing grenades or using his rifle.
The terrorist detonated his suicide vest killing himself and Major L Jyotin in the act.
For this act of exemplary courage, selfless grit and valor in the face of armed adversary, Major L Jyotin was awarded the highest peace time gallantry Award, "Ashok Chakra (Posthumous)" on August 15, 2010 .
