Imphal, May 19 2012:
Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) has taken serious note over pathetic power supply in Ukhrul district.
In a statement, President of TKS YS Yangmei informed that the student body has maintaining data over inadequate power supply and frequent load shedding in the district on a day to day basis.
Accordingly, from April 4 to 14, general public of the district received only 55.11 hours of power supply although the bill paid by them is equal to that of consumers who have the so-called VIP line connection and have access to 24 hours power supply.
Pointing out that inadequate power supply has subjected the people to all sort of inconveniences, TKS has once again drawn the attention of the Government and its department concerned for taking up remedial measures immediately and warned of taking recourse to agitation if the genuine demand of the people is ignored.
Meanwhile, the student body has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Secretary of the state highlighting the grievances of the student community in Ukhrul district.
The memorandum signed by its General Secretary Mahirah Raihing recalled that construction of 37 school buildings under MOBC for the period 2009-2010 had been approved considering the pathetic condition of Government school buildings in the state.
However, after the works were allotted to different agencies, the building construction could not progress smoothly due to corruptive motives of the department concerned which has sanctioned only 40 percent of the fund till date.
The memorandum has also highlighted lack of proper infrastructure and teaching staff at Pettigrew College, which is the only Government in the district and DIET Centre at Hungpung.
Moreover, absence of Transport Officer and Traffic system in the district has led to far more negative consequences in and around the district headquarters, the memorandum pointed out, while stressing on the need for taking up necessary measures to bridge the existing developmental gap between the hills and the valley districts.
