Debkumar Bose, director of the first Manipuri feature film "Matamgi Manipur" has been conferred the prestigious Karam Monomohan Lifetime Achievement Award 2018 for his extraordinary contribution in carving the fine body of Matamgi Manipur and for the dedicated service he has rendered for the growth of regional and National cinema.
The film received National Award from the President.
He was conferred the lifetime award at an auspicious ceremony held at Maharaja Chandrakirti Auditorium, Art & Culture Complex today.
The function was organised by Karam Monomohan Memorial Trust in collaboration with Cine Artistes and Technicians' Association (CATA), Manipur.
Minister, Art & Culture, L Jayantakumar Singh, CAF& PD Minister Karam Shyam, Water Resources & YAS Minister Letpao Haokip, Tribal Affairs & Hills Minister, KN Kayisii and president, CATA, RK Jnanranjan graced the function as chief guest, guests of honour and president respectively.
Highlighting that film as a medium depicts the philosophy of life, Minister L Jayantakumar lauded the film directors and artistes of the State who have brought laurels to the State.
He also said that there is an agenda in the Cabinet to start film making courses, by Manipur Film & Television Institute to train the film-loving youths, from August 2018 .
Appreciating the business and entrepreneur oriented activities of late Karam Monomohan, Minister Karam Shyam said that the popularity Karam Monomoham achieved from films, his workings and his ideal philosophy will always remain historic and memorable in the State.
Giving his keynote address, Deputy CM Y Joykumar who is also advisor of Karam Monomohan Memorial Trust said that Karam Monomohan was a pioneer as far as Manipuri Cinema is concerned.
The dignitaries, members of CATA and other officials presented paid floral tributes to the photo of veteran film maker Karam Monomohan to mark his 9th death anniversary.
Meanwhile, cast and crew of Matamgi Manipur including Aribam Shyam Sharma were felicitated during the cereminy.
Professor Arambam Lokendro gave a reminiscing note on the making of the National Award winning film.
Documentary "The First Leap" (Indian Panorama selected film) directed by Haobam Pawankumar along with "Matamgi Manipur" were also screened during the award ceremony.
