Imphal, November 21 2016:
The All Manipur Muslim Organisation Coordinating Committee (AMMOCOC) has appealed to all the candidates and the political parties not to create tension among the Muslim community on the pretext of the upcoming election.
Speaking to media persons, SM Jalal, president of the committee said, 'Recently some political parties and candidates have been funding and creating some civil societies and dragging the name of Islam and Meitei Pangal society in the petty fights and abuses between the political parties for their own benefits' .
He pointed out that due to suspicions of the hands of external forces and illegal funding involved in creating such tension among the Muslim community and also with other communities growing, AMMOCOC and its constituent organisations (United Manipur Muslim Women Development Organisation, Manipur Muslim Welfare Organisation, All Manipur Muslim Students Organisation, All Manipur Artists and Cultural Organisation and Muslim Advocates Legal Services Organisation) have come up with a resolution after a meeting.
'According to the resolution, political parties should use a political platform for discussions regarding election issues', Jalal said.
Candidates should stop creating tension between different communities, stop funding civil societies and stop using religion for political benefits, he added.
Appealing to all the civil societies and the Muslim community to honour and support the resolution, Jala urged people not to indulge in immoral and unnecessary activities in the name of election.
