Imphal, June 08 2011:
Leibi Village Authority today clarified that the long standing bandh imposed along NH 39 from Pallel to Moreh to press its demand for early settlement of land dispute between Leibi and Kwatha was relaxed on 31st May on the request of Maring Uparup Assembly (MUA), Hill Tribal Council Moreh and Meitei Council Moreh in public interest.
However, it is unfortunate that there has not been any positive response till today from the Government and some social organisations of the area on whose request the bandh was suspended, said a release issued by the village chairman Kh Medar Dangsa.
Questioning the 'reluctance' of the Government to bring about peaceful settlement to the prolonged land dispute between Leibi village and Kwatha village, it alleged that the authority concerned has not heeded to the demands of the villagers although a charter of demand has been submitted to the Chief Minister.
"We also express our regret for the strong words we have used against Chandel ADC chairman Lhunkhosei Zou in our statement in The Sangai Express on May 31.However, we will not hesitate to indulge into intense form of agitation if the authority concerned failed to address the issue to ensure peaceful settlement of the land dispute at the earliest possible," it cautioned.
