Mob attacks Maiba for molesting a minor girl

Imphal, May 07 2011: A maiba, W Manglemjao and his eldest son sustained serious injuries when a mob assaulted them on the charge of molesting a 13-year old girl.

The incident took place in the house of the 60 year old quack at Khurai Chaithabi Leirak Thongam Leikai.

The irate mob ransacked his house.

Locals as well as family of the 13-year old girl, a student of Standard VII, said Maiba, W Manglemjao had molested her taking advantage of the absence of her mother around 10 am today.

The mother of the girl said that she went to the house of the Maiba when her friends told her to consult him about her daughter's complaint of stomach ache.

She visited the Maiba yesterday in the evening but he asked to come today.

Today, around 10 am she visited the house of the quack once again with her daughter and the Maiba after a thorough examination of the girl, asked the mother to buy some goods which he said wil be needed for a worship, the mother said.

Leaving behind her daughter with the Maiba, she went to buy the items from the nearby market.

When she back, the front door of the room was found closed from inside.

She then entered the room from the back door where she found her daughter fighting to ward off the Maiba.

"My daughter was crying for help with her shirt pulled half way up," the weeping mother related.

When the news spread across at the locality of the girl, a mob from that locality stormed the house of the Maiba and ransacked his house.

They damaged at least four two-wheelers and other household items before they dragged out the Maiba from inside the house and thrashed him till he fainted.

His eldest son, W Rajen (33), who ran out of the house on seeing the crowd was stabbed.

Rajen was immediately rushed to a hospital by the police who arrived instantly to disperse the crowd.

Both the Maiba and his son were shifted to JNIMS hospital but as the condition of Rajen became critical, he was referred to Shija hospital.
