CCPur ZEO, SWO office buildings set ablaze

The office buildings of Zonal Educational Office (ZEO) and Social Welfare Office (SWO), Churachandpur were set ablaze by an angry mob on the third day of protest against the introduction and passing of three Bills particularly The Protection of Manipur Peoples Bill, 2015 and The Manipur Land Revenues & Land Reforms (7th Amendment) Bill, 2015 on August 31 by the Manipur Legislative Assembly.
According to sources, an angry crowd also made attempts to storm the Police Station, Churachandpur on Wednesday.
The crowd could not proceed forward as members of women societies and groups persuaded them to retreat.
However, the crowd headed for the office buildings of Zonal Educational Office (ZEO) and Social Welfare Office (SWO), Churachandpur and set the two offices on fire.
No casualty was reported in the incident despite tensions running high in the whole of Churachandpur town.
Meanwhile, defying curfew and 144 CrPC promulgated in Churachandpur Town, a public meeting was held at Kuki Khanglai Lawmpi (KKL) complex on Wednesday.
A Joint Action Committee (JAC) was formed in connection with the killing of seven persons during the protest.
Lalkhohao Chongloi; Richard Valtampui; T Lalkhohao Haokip; Vanlalien and Paul Lal Chhanhim were appointed JAC Conveners.
However, the resolution adopted during the meeting could not be accessed by media persons till the filling this report.
Another source informed Hueiyen Lanpao that August 31 every year may be declared as "Tribal Martyrs Day" .
The meeting was attended by the representatives of Hmar Women Association (HWA); Kuki Women Organisation for Human Rights (KWOHR); Mizo Peoples Convention (MPC); Zomi Mothers Association (ZMA); Joint Film Tropic Organisation (JFTO); Kuki Khanglai Lawmpi (KKL); Zomi Youth Association (ZYA); Hmar Youth Association (HYA) and Young Mizo Association (YMA).
Speaking to Hueiyen Lanpao, Inspector General Police (IGP) (Zone-II) L Kailun said the situation was under control now but high tension still prevailed in the area.
He said additional reinforcements including BSF, MR and IRB jawans have arrived in town.
Addl Director General of Police LM Khaute (L&O) has also rushed to Churachandpur town on Wednesday to see supervise security measures initiated by the State Government.
Assam Rifles personnel have also been deployed in the area.
