Imphal, August 30 2021: In an unfortunate incident, a 13 year old boy drowned after saving another boy on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Machunthon Reamei, s/o Sadrach Reamei of Namthanjang village in Keithelmanbi.

Machunthon was a Class VIII student at JNV Khumbong, said a statement issued by Navodaya Vidyalaya Employees Welfare Association (NVEWA) .

On Sunday, while returning from a Church, the victim and one of his juniors, Sangaipou Gangmei (12) suddenly slipped and fell into the community pond which was about 12 feet deep.

Machunthon Reamei jumped and tried to save the boy, and after struggling for about 20 minutes he rescued Sangaipou Gangmei but unfortunately, he slipped and submerged into the river.

His body was fished out by the villagers later, added the statement.

NVEWA condoled the demise of the young boy and praised his bravery.

NVEWA prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace and also shared the grief of the bereaved family.
