Imphal, February 26 2019:
Following the failure of the State Government to regularise 85 employees who have been working in the Fishery Department for more than 30 years under contract basis, the employees have started indefinite sit-in-protest today.
Speaking to media persons at the sideline of the sit in protest organised at Fishery Department gate, Lamphelpat, one laboratory assistant of the Dept stated that 85 officiating employees of the department, who have been working for more than 30 years, have been completely neglected by the State Government as their repeated demand for regularisation has not been fulfilled till date.
He stated that former Director of the department issued a notification about vacancy of 51 posts and its regularisation in 2013.But in 2016, the vacant posts were filled by fresh candidates through DPC, he added.
He lamented that fresh candidates were appointed instead of the senior employees who have been in the service for more than 30 years, which compelled the employees to launch the indefinite sit in protest.
Questioning how receiving only Rs 11,000 will enable the employees to maintain their family, he warned to call relay hunger strike if the Government continues to turn a deaf ear to the demand of the employees.
