Youth drowns at Langmai Irei

Proving that strong affection and care still tie the hearts of people of different communities, residents of Longmai today shared their shock and sorrow with the family of a youth from Samurou of Imphal West who died drowning in the Irei river at Longmai Noney yesterday.
Eighteen-year-old Salam Thoithoisana son of Iboyaima of Samurou bazar drowned in the river where he was taking a bath with two friends.
He and his two friends had appeared in the just concluded HSSLC exam at Tengkhojang Higher Secondary School.
Thoithoisana was drowned in the strong currents of the river and his lifeless body was retrieved by the villagers who rushed to the spot when his two friends shouted for help.
The dead body was transported to his family today in a coffin donated by Zeliangrong Students' Union, Longmai area.
The union also performed a condolence service which was presided over by its convener Pochailung.
The Longmai Village Authority also donated ' 1000 to the family of the bereaved family.
The Longmai Bazar Board, Longmai Area Nisha Bandh and Longmai Area Village Council also extended help of ' 500 each to the family.
In another unrelated incident, a non-local, identified as Gopi Raj Bhatia (22) son of SR Bhatia died after falling down from a three-floor building at Babupara today around 1 pm.
He was declared brought dead at RIMS hospital, a report said.
