Imphal, August 10 2016:
People who have Atrial Septal Defect (a hole
in the septum between the heart's two upper chambers) and those
who require open heart surgery may lead a normal life if this defect
is treated on time, said Sky Hospital Chairman and Chief
Cardiologist Dr L Shyamkishore.
He was speaking at a function organised in celebration of
giving a new lease of life to three kids who had been success-
fully operated upon for heart defects.
Dr Shyamkishore said that Sky Hospital began providing
the facility of free surgery to such kids under Rashtriya Bal
Swastha Karyakram (RBSK) in association with the State
Health Mission from February this year.
He said that in the last batch of the scheme, seven children
including three kids who had hole in the heart were operated
upon in July.
All of them have got a new lease of life as they
are now healthy and leading a normal life, he said.
Dr Shyamkishore said that children who have hole in the
heart may not live long if they are not given treatment on time.
He further said that Sky Hospital has been giving free Eco
Cardiography and free OPD service to all the patients referred
by District RBSK teams .
