National Handloom Expo kicks off ; Credit cards for weavers soon: Nabakishore

A National Handloom Expo, which is being organised by Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited, Government of Manipur under the aegis of Development Commissioner for Handlooms, Government of India has kick-started from today at Hapta Kangjeibung here.
Inaugurating the Expo as Chief Guest, Principal Secretary of Commerce and Industries O Nabakishore observed that lack of proper marketing facilities for the handloom and handicrafts products of the state has given a direct impact on the artisans working in the field.
So, in order to make it a sustainable career for the artisans there is always a constant need for searching markets outside the state.
He also expressed the need for organising such the handloom expo on a grand scale to increase productivity and attract buyers.
Nabakishore announced that the government would be providing credit cards to more than 10,000 weavers of the state very soon.
Concerned banks have also assured to take up necessary actions in this regard.
Director of Commerce and Industries John Tlangtinkhuma; Additional Director of Handloom and Handicrafts V Tolthang; Deputy Director of Commission for Handlooms and Weavers Service Centre Kommu Wavindra and Managing Director of Manipur Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited W Nilamani were among others who attended the inaugural function as presidium members.
More than 70 stalls are participating in the expo, which would go on till March 18 .
