Asserting that culture is the mirror of the society, DGP, Y Joykumar today stressed on the need for preservation of "our indigenous culture with a definite policy".
Addressing as chief guest at the 33rd foundation day of Ipa Thoukok, Uripok Naoremthong, the DGP observed that Ipa Thoukok has been working tirelessly to preserve our culture and society which has been projecting our cultural identity.
"Culture is a part of the society.
Our culture has to play a major role in fixing the nature of our society.
It has an indispensable relation with the society.
So, we need a thorough research into the culture of our society so as to preserve our cultural heritage, which provides the uniqueness of our society, Joykumar said.
Our culture has its own unique quality, as like Manipuri dance has its own unique taste.
Manipuri dance has the power of attracting the people from outside the state.
Many people are mesmerised by Manipuri dance, he said.
The DGP exhorted the people to make a concerted effort to preserve the state's arts forms.
Stating his willingness of the setting up of an institute of arts for Ipa Thoukok, he said it was a very good idea but mentioned that "requirements in priority in setting up this institute needs to be discussed first" .
The dream of setting up the institute will come true only when these requirements are identified first, he said.
Commerce and Industries director, S Joykumar who attended as guest of honour talked on the need of preserving indigenous food items saying that food is very closely related with the culture of a society.
For instance, he said Chakhao, the delicious and rare rice of the state is craved outside the state.
Seminars and discussions for preservation of indigenous foods of the state is a must, he added.
Chairperson of the suspended IMC, RK Ranisana and playwright Manaobi MM who attended as guests of honour shared their opinions on the need for preservation of the indigenous culture which is under threat of extinction.
They lauded the role taken by Ipa Thoukok in the uplifting of the culture of the state.
