Funds 'misappropriated', says KMC Students' Union

The students union of Kha-Manipur College have alleged thatthe funds sanctioned by the UGC for the development of the college have been misused and misappropriated.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club yesterday, Kha Manipur College Students Union general secretary Ksh Sobash urged the authority concerned to look into the matter at the earliest or face intense agitation.
He said that the UGC approved Rs 1.8 crore for the establishment of B Vocational course at the college and out of the said funds, Rs 85 lakh have been sanctioned.
Out of the said sanctioned funds, around Rs 30 lakh were reportedly used to pay the salaries of the staff and around Rs 55 lakh should be left, which are meant to be utilised for development of the lab, buying lab equipments, paying salaries for the guest faculties etc, he explained.
However, comparing the data as per the statement of a Chartered Accountant, there is a large inconsistency, he alleged and added that the statement also used the signature of Principal as well.
He continued that Rs 30 lakh was sanctioned for the construction of a ladies hostel which is now operating properly.
But an additional Rs 60 lakh which was sanctioned for construction of other ladies hostel were utilised in the same structure.
Rs 2.40 crore for fitness centre, Rs 1 crore for a swimming pool and Rs 82 lakh for the construction of an indoor hall, have also mysteriously vanished, he alleged and pointed fingers at former Nodal Project Officer of the college one Pukhrambam Somarendro for the alleged fund misappropriation.
Ksh Sobash then appealed to the higher authority concerned to take up necessary actions regarding the case within 10 days.
