Imphal, May 16 2011:
Lack of vision and competiveness among the educated youth is a factor that contributes to the rampant corruption in the state, according to Agriculture minister, Ph Parijat who opined that the majority of the educated youth indulges in bribing to get government jobs.
The rate of the state's educated youth appearing in the all India level competitive exams is very low.
Instead of keeping an eye to Central government jobs, they run from post to pillar to get a low grade job in the state government, the agriculture minister said speaking as chief guest at the opening function of a 10-day coaching programme of candidates preparing for the civil service exams.
The minister further said that the state has over seven lakhs youth seeking jobs.
Unfortunately, the state has no industries which will provide jobs to thousands people at a time.
At same time, the state's educated youth cannot appear with success in the competitive exams conducted by the UPSC and other exams conducted by recruitment boards of various job providing companies.
They even do not attempt to get jobs in state government departments with sincerity.
In searching a means to get a job they knock at the doors of ministers, MLAs, bureaucrates or influential people and bribe them to fulfill their desire.
This has led to rampant corruption in the state, he observed.
Thus, people who are to play a major role in checking corruption are indulged in bribing people in power even if they are not asked to pay bribes.
This has influenced to divert the minds of ministers and bureaucrates from discharging their duties with fairness, he said.
People and civil societies can play a major role in checking corruption within the society, he reiterated.
AR Khan, Commissioner, Labour and Employment Commissioner, who also attended the function, said that success lies on the hard work of
self-confident people.
He said, the system in south India helps students to know the subjects from the grass root.
That was why, the rate of success among students of south India is high.
Agriculture director, P Phalandro also spoke at the opening function of the coaching programme.
