'Men should come out to fight violence against women'

Right from their childhood days, mothers should teach their sons to respect women and have high regard for them, said Bijaya Yumlembam, Programme Executive, All India Radio, Imphal.
Speaking at the closing function of the International Fortnight Observation Protesting Violence Against Women held at Hotel Classic, today.
Bijaya Yumlembam further said that to stop violence against women in the state the women should have the courage to raise their voice in protest.
Fighting violence against women does not necessarily mean that women of the state should revolt against every act of their male counterparts.
Speaker I Hemochandra on the occasion noted that violence against women can be committed either mentally or physically.
Women themselves alone cannot control all the violent acts committed against them, the male counterparts should also come forward to stop all violent acts against women.
The Best Gender Journalist Award for the year 2011 was conferred to Hemchandra Salam, Joint Editor, Paojel, an evening daily, on the occasion.
The award carries a cash prize of Rs 15,000 and a citation.
Prizes were also distributed to position holders of the song and slogan competition.
Manaobi MM, renowned script writer graced the function as the President.
