Imphal, May 07 2011:
The decision of cabinet of the SPF government to open a deemed University of the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts of India (ICFAI) will pave the way for private sector participation in the field of education, said Sanamani Yambem, the principal co-coordinator in Manipur for ICFAI while hailing the decision.
The cabinet under the chair of the CM, Ibobi, on May 4, approved the setting up of the institute and to provide a site for the institute in principle as per request from the ICFAI.
The institute had requested the state government to permit it to construct the private University at a cost of ' 30 crores.
The cabinet decision which would lead to the establishment of the ICFAI University in the state could be considered as a realization of a three year old dream of the team who has worked relentlessly for the realization of the this effort, Sanamani said.
The ICFAI is a non-profit trust set up at Hyderabad and dedicated to spreading professional education in the country.
At a time when the demand of professional trained graduates have increased, existing state or central run institutions are not able to cater to this increased demand and this has led to the participation of the private sector in the educational field, according to Sanamani.
The ICFAI University, which would be set up as a private university under an Act of the state government, will have a campus of 20 to 30 acres and the cabinet had agreed to the provision of the site.
The university would impart courses which would lead up to MBA, BBA and BCA.
It also seeks to introduce courses in the hospitality sector and later in field of medicine and engineering.
"Manipur with more than six lakh unemployed youth could take advantage of this proposed university which will emphasise on imparting knowledge, skills and also placements, Sanamani observed.
The new university should immediately go in for courses in BCA, MCA and hospitality, he urged lauding the government's acceptance of proposal.
It is pertinent to mention that the ICFAI has already opened a university in Tripura where many students from Manipur are studying.
The ICFAI University in Tripura's state capital, Agartala reserves 30 seats for every NE states including Manipur.
Presently more than 40 students including three girls from Manipur are pursuing various courses in the university.
Most of the students who were undergoing B Tech courses are from Imphal East, West, Bishnupur and Churachandpur districts.
Even though Tripura has an ICFAI University which is a hot spot for pursuing B Tech besides Engineering and other Management studies etc, Manipur and the NE are not aware of it, said Satyendra Gupta, Registrar of ICFAI University, Agartala who talked recently to media persons.
