Condolence meeting held

A condolence meeting was held today at United Peoples' Front, Manipur (UPF) office at Keishamthong Nambul Mapal, Laishom Leirak Machil, Imphal West to mourn the demise of Meitankeisam Niranjan, former president of All Assam Manipuri Students' Union (AAMSU) on September 29 .
As per a statement issued by Ayekpam Loya Meitei, secretary publicity & information, UPF Manipur, the condolence meeting was held at 11 am today and attended by representatives of UPF, NIPCO, CADA, MAPI Council, UPACO, AMKIL, Nupi Samaj, Tammi Chingmi, EECHAL among others.
Condoling the passing of Meitankeisam Niranjan, who served as president of AAMSU Central Committee for the 1981-82, 1982-83, 1983-84, 1984-85 sessions and observed a 2-minute silence to honour the deceased.
Born on June 30, 1957 at Dudpatil Pt IV (Khoirelpar), Borkhola, Assam, Meitankeisam Niranjan also served as advisor of AAMSU for many terms.
Further, he also served as convenor of Meitei Imma Langey Lup (MILL) and as general secretary of Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) Cachar district in 1985 .
Meitankeisam Niranjan was also at the forefront of many social movements such as the Bishnupriya issue and the agitation for inclusion of Manipuri language in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution, said the statement.
UPF Manipur added that Meitankeisam Niranjan also played a key role in strengthening the bonds between the Meiteis residing at Cachar and those in Manipur and the development of Manipuri society.
The gathering also offered prayers for the departed soul to rest in peace.
