CM woos voters with development plans

In a bid to woo voters of even a small ward of the Imphal Municipal Council, Chief Minister, O Ibobi Singh today spelt out various projects which have been taken up and are to be taken up for the beautification of Imphal city.
He said the Indira Gandhi Children Park will be expanded after the shifting of the Assembly secretariat from the present site to Chingmeirong, and that another multi-storey market will be constructed in the bazar area.
He also said there are plans to relocate the present electricity office at Keishampat, shifting of Johnstone Higher Secondary School and G Hindi High School from their present locations and that the lands will be used for other purposes.
Government is considering development of a parking lot in the city area after shifting the Electricity office at Keishampat.
The parking lot would be a multi-storey one.
The location of schools in the heart of the city are not suited with the times.
The government is therefore considering shifting the Johnstone school and Hindi school to other suitable places.
The land vacated by these two schools will be utilized in developing other structures as part of the beautification of Imphal city.
The government has decided not to construct high rise structures in the IMC areas as the by-law of the council prohibits construction of high rise buildings in the area, he said.
Expressing government concern over flooding in the Lamphel area during the rainy season, Ibobi said that government will buy a water pump costing around ' 3 crore for pumping out water when needed.
These projects are to be taken up by the SPF government with funds from the Centre under the initiative of Prime Minister Dr Manmohon Singh and AICC chairperson, Sonia Gandhi, the CM said.
The Congress wishes to conduct governance right from the grass root bodies to highest body.
That is why, the Congress is taking a keen interest in the IMC election, said the CM speaking at the flag hoisting ceremony of Chongtham Memcha who is contesting the election on a Congress ticket from Ward No.27 .
Lamshang MLA, W Brajabhidu was among other Congress leaders who attended the flag hoisting function.
