Awareness programme on 'Prevention of Substance Abuse and Alcoholism' conducted

Thoubal, March 13 2021:
The District Social Welfare Office, Thoubal in association with the Zonal Education Office, Thoubal jointly organised an awareness and education programme on 'Prevention of Substance Abuse and Alcoholism' under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign with a view to raise awareness among the youths, especially among the students and teachers in Thoubal district at The Eastern Star English School, Khangabok; Heirok High School, Heirok and Peace & Freedom Academy, Thoubal Haokha today.
The programme at The Eastern Star English School, Khangabok was attended by Arambam Kameshwar Singh, District Social Welfare Officer, Thoubal; Md Manjur Ahamad, DI and Khundrakpam Mangijao Singh, Principal as resource persons, said a statement of DLC, NMBC Thoubal.
A wide range of approaches on how to fight collectively in the reduction of demands and supply was discussed during the programme; The students and teachers were also encouraged to be a role model in the prevention of drug abuse.
In a similar programme held at Heirok High School, Heirok, Arambam Anilkumar Singh, Zonal Education Officer, Thoubal; Y Laksman Singh, Member NMBC Thoubal; O Sandhyarani Devi, AI; Kh Binodini Devi, AI and Khumanthem Kesho Singh, Headmaster attended as presidium members.
The attending dignitaries stressed on the harmful effects of consuming drugs and alcohol to the health, family and society, it added.
In another programme held at Peace and Freedom Academy, Thoubal Haokha, Seram Asha, Extension Officer, DSWO Thoubal; A Rebati Devi, AI; Th Geetabali Devi, AI and Jotin Salam, Principal attended as presidium members.
During the programme, the resource persons mentioned that the adolescent youths are more vulnerable to the problem of drug abuse in the society.
They explained the ill effects of drugs and its physical, economical, psychological and sociological loss, it added.
They also emphasized the importance of treatment of drug addicts in Hospitals and IRCAs and appealed to refer the drug addicts to such centres for their treatment and rehabilitation.
The programmes concluded with the declaration of Drug Free Schools.
