No more DRDA, election meeting for Kpi at Senapati, say political parties

Kangpokpi, July 10 2018: Despite the creation of Kangpokpi district along with other six new districts in Manipur almost 2 years back Kangpokpi District is still without its own DRDA and District Election Officer.

Every meeting and activities in connection with DRDA and Election related matter are held at Senapati till today hindering smooth functioning and development of the newly created district, while DDO power of SP Kangpokpi is also yet to be bifurcated from Senapati.

Considering the fact that after bifurcation of Kangpokpi District and Senapati there must be separate DRDA and DEO for the respective districts and any activities of the departments should done at their respective districts, political parties of Kangpokpi including BJP and INC has written to DC Kangpokpi not to entertain further any meeting related to Kangpokpi sough at Senapati.

The letter addressed to DC Kangpokpi from Thangjamang Kipgen, president, BJP Sadar Hills and Zilkhothang Touthang, president, Indian National Congress, Sadar Hills said they will not entertain any meeting related to Kangpokpi district, especially in regards to DRDA and Election matter sought at Senapati DC's office.

The two political leaders of Sadar Hills Kangpokpi district also requested the office of DC Kangpokpi to forward the matter to the concerned authority for further necessary action and arrange any meeting related to Kangpokpi including DRDA and election matter at the office of the DC in Kangpokpi.

Earlier, various civil society organizations of Sadar Hills Kangpokpi District along with representatives of recognized political parties in Sadar Hills had petitioned the Chief Electoral Officer, GoM for immediate designation of DC Kangpokpi as DEO, Kangpokpi as per Section 13 AA of the Representation of People Act, 1950 and also the standing instruction of the Election Commission of India.

The Kuki Inpi Kangpokpi District, Kangpokpi District Congress Committee, Kangpokpi Block Congress Committee, and BJP (ST) Morcha, Kangpokpi District had also appealed the Director General, ECI, New Delhi to confer the powers of DEO to DC, Kangpokpi in respect of the 46-Saikul (ST), 50-Kangpokpi (Gen) and 51-Saitu (ST).

The first Deputy Commissioner of Kangpokpi, T Ranjit Singh, IAS had sent letter to the concerned authority requesting for his designation as District Election Officer and even reminders for the same on several occasions without any result till today even after a lapse of one and half years.

Various CSOs of Kangpokpi under the aegis of Kuki Inpi Kangpokpi even called total Highway shutdown on Nov 15, 2017 demanding implementation of all inevitable necessary powers and functions of Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police of the district especially DRDA, DEO.

The organisation called off the stir following assurance of Minister Th Bishwajit as Chief Minister in-charge in the absence of the Chief Minister to fulfil their demands within December, 2017.The assurance is yet to be fulfilled.
