1,15,220 dogs vaccinated against rabies: Govindas Konthoujam

In all, 1,15,220 dogs had been given anti-rabies vaccines during the period between January 13 and February 24, Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Minister Govindas Konthoujam informed the Manipur Assembly on Friday.
One Rapid Action team has been set up for each district headquarters to contain rabies besides one team each for three subdivisions of Jiribam, Moreh and Kangpokpi, the minister said in a reply to a written question by Manipur Trinamool Congress MLA Th Shymakumar in the House.
He said the Government has stockpiled sufficient anti-rabies vaccines to control the deadly disease, and that if needed, his department is prepared to vaccinate more dogs free of cost.
Govindas said the Government is set to vaccinate 80 percent of the total dogs in the State against rabies.
In a separate question of MLA Shyamkumar, Health Minister Phungzathang Tonsing said the under construction PHC building at Keithelmanbi under Andro constituency will be inaugurated very soon.
The PHC would be upgraded to a 24x7 centre if opportunities come, the minister said, adding facilities for medical treatment including child delivery would be available at the health centre.
Replying to a question raised by MLA Kh Joykishan, Works Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar said the State PWD follows the manual instructions of the Central Public Works Department in executing any work by the State.
"We maintain the manual instructions of the Central PWD," he said.
There are 28 Government Colleges in the State and out of which, seven are in the hill districts, Education Minister M Okendro informed the House while replying to a question by MLA Samuel Risom.
Okendro said there are 318 regular and part-time lecturers in the hills presently.
In another question of MLA Joykishan, State Home Minister Gaikhangam said the Government has no immediate plan to shift the present VDF post located in front of Thangmeiband Fisheries Gate.
