Brutal Assault Of Minor Ukhrul rallies, accused sent to jail

Ukhrul, February 19 2013:
Thousands turned out to join the silent rally to protest the brutal assault and torture of a minor girl by the family of Jim and Edala Horam after accusing her of theft.
The girl worked as a domestic help of the family.
Significantly Jim Horam has been sent to jail.
The rally was jointly organised by Zingtun Katamnao Long (ZTKL), Ukhrul District Alliance for Child Rights (UDACR), District Women Committee (DWC), United NGOs Mission Manipur (UNMM), Tangkhul Catholic Council (TCC), El Shaddai Resource Centre, Volunteer for Village Development (VVD) .

Child Welfare Committee, Naga Guwahati Students Union, Naga People's Movement for Human Rights and other civil organizations of Ukhrul also joined the rally.
JAC Convenor AC Thotso in his keynote address condemned the act as inhuman and demanded that two accused should be punished in accordance under the provisions of the law.
He also demanded the immediate termination of their services.
The JAC also appreciated the district administration, Police Dept, CJM and CEO UADC for taking prompt action and taking up action against the offenders as well as for extending assistance to the family of the victim.
Assuring that the JAC would extend all its assistance in ensuring the arrest of the co-accused, Edala Horam, who is absconding, the convenor said a memorandum has also been submitted to the district administration so that all possible physical, emotional and medical care would be extended to the young victim.
The convenor said that the minor victim is still in need of consistent medical attention and expressed apprehension that she may develop psychological scar in the future.
