Troops of 7 Assam Rifles and cadres of a UG group exchanged heavy gun fire at Wangoo Tera Mayai Leikai under Sugnu police station at about 12.15 pm today.
During the firing one UG cadre was hit by a bullet and fell into theImphal river.
The injured cadre was carried away by the current of the river.
The shoot-out followed when AR troops acting on a specific information, cordoned off the area and marched towards the house of one Amom Mangi at Wangoo Mayai Leikai.
As the UG cadres fled from the house, the AR troops and the UG cadres exchanged firing at Imphal river bank behind the house of one Loitongbam Mani.
During the firing, one UG cadre was hit by a bullet and he fell into Imphal river.
However, the cadre could not be located as he was carried away by the water current.
Nevertheless, blood stain were seen at the spot.
Moreover, AR troops recovered one 9mm pistol, two live rounds and two spent bullets from the spot.
Even as AR troops and the local people searched for the injured cadre using bamboo poles, they could not find the cadre.
On the other hand, AR troops seized a bag containing shirts and shoes and 12 live rounds from the house where the UG cadres were taking shelter.
UG cadres held: Two UG cadres belonging to PLA and KYKL were apprehended by Bishnupur district commandos from their respective homes today morning.
The PLA cadre is identified as Sanasam Pameshwar (36) of Salam Mamang leikai while the KYKL activist is one Thounaojam Santa (29) of Salam Mayai Leikai under Patsoi police station.
KYKL men arrested: Based on specific information, troops of 21 and 44 Assam Rifles arrested three KYKL cadres from Kakching yesterday, said the PRO of AR in a statement today.
The three have been identified as Phairenjao (35), Ravi (20) and Romen (27).
Body taken: The body of Laikhuram Nanao alias Boynao (26) of Kongpal Khaidem Leikai who was shot dead by Imphal East Police Commandos near Palace Compound on May 25 has been taken by his family members.
Post-mortem was conducted at RIMS morgue today.
