State tourism will soon be getting a new boost

Tourism in the state will be getting a new boost with the North Eastern Council (NEC) planning to chalk out a tourism master plan for the state to develop tourism infrastructure in major tourist destinations of the state like, Kangla, Loktak Lake and Moreh.
Secretary NEC UK Sangma who came to Imphal to review the various projects being taken up in the state under the North Eastern Region Community Resource Management Project (NERCOMP) told reporters in a press meet held at Hotel Classic that the Tourism Master Plan which will give a boost to the tourism sector of the state will be taken up under the 12th Five Year Plan.
Under the plan, many tourism infrastructure including tourist lodges will be constructed at major tourist destinations of the state so that tourists from foreign countries will find it safe and conducive to stay and experience the beauty of the state's tourist spots.
It will also help in developing the state's economy.
The decision to form a master plan for Manipur was taken as per the resolution taken in the Plenary session of NEC held in Gangtok two years ago.
Many of the North Eastern States have their own tourism master plans by now.
NEC and Manipur government have also come to an agreement regarding the master plan.
The master plan will become operational from next year onwards, Sangma said.
In order to make the plan a success, the NEC will execute the master plan along with 19 different state government departments including PHED, PWD and Transport department.
He also said that he had inspected construction works being carried out in the state under the funding of NEC and the progress of all the projects is satisfactory.
He visited Moreh on Tuesday to inspect the Integrated Check Post, Moreh Hospitals and Land Custom Office.
Joint Secretary of DoNER MinistryJP Sharma, Tourism Secretaries of Tripura and Nagaland, Project Director, MDS Y Ningthem, Principal Secretary Commerce and Industries O Nabakishore, DC Chandel E Deleep, SP Chandel K Radhashyam, ADC Moreh Lunminthang Haokip were among others who accompanied Sangma in his tour to Moreh.
