DESAM bats for full-fledged NSU main campus

Altogether five resolutions, including prevention/stopping of opening outlying campuses for National Sports University (NSU) until its main campus at Imphal has been made full-fledged were adopted at a discussion programme organized today by DESAM at the conference hall of Manipur Olympic Association (MOA).
The discussion programme held on the theme "National Sports University: Prospects and Concerns" was attended by many intellectuals, academicians and individuals related to games and sports.
The other resolutions included struggling/endeavouring collectively to get aborted the walk-in interview scheduled on June 11, 2018 for filling up various posts under National Sports University Society (NSUS), making the posts of VC, Registrar, Controller, FO and other staff of the university as regular posts and making them permanently stay at the headquarters/main campus at Imphal besides urging the authorities concerned to complete the ongoing infrastructure construction work at the main campus at the earliest.
The final resolution also said that a joint committee comprising of DESAM and sports experts, sports organizations, sports activists and lovers will be formed and urge the Government to translate the above mentioned resolutions into action.
During the discussion programme, RK Ranendrajit, convenor, Sports Movement Committee, Manipur underscored the need for convincing the public, particularly the laymen and youth in the State on the vision and full prospects of NSU in the State.
He observed that people of the State will oppose opening of certain courses in outlying campus at Lucknow and fight tooth and nail to make NSU full-fledged when they come to understand the values of that certain courses.
Hence, people from all walks of life in the State need to fight collectively and strategise precisely the short and long term plans of NSU in the State, he opined adding that the people should also apprise the CM and Ministers for their help.
Asserting that the NSU came up amidst political tussle between Congress and BJP for taking political mileage, Ranendrajit maintained that the university should not be turned into a political gimmick.
Many other intellectuals and experts contended that the NSU in Imphal will be of no significance if the courses having better prospects, such as sports journalism, sports management and performance analysis etc are not opened here.
They also pointed out that the benefits of a sport university should not only mean producing good players but also serve as a breeding ground for sports analysts, sports journalists and other relevant professions.
They also pointed out that opening of mundane courses of sports in the NSU at Imphal and opening high profile courses in Lucknow would be nothing but betrayal of the people of Manipur.
