Imphal, October 26 2020:
The All Manipur Muslim Students' Organisation (AMMSO) and the Pangal Students' Union, Dhanamanjuri University (PSUDMU) have demanded the State Government to implement 4 percent reservation for Meitei Pangal in general courses (non-proffesional) of Higher Education from the academic session 2020-21 .
A 48-hour general strike will be called from the midnight of October 28 if the demand is not entertained, the two bodies cautioned.
Speaking to media persons during a press meet held at Manipur Press Club, today, president of AMMSO, Pusam Zabed Ahmed said that 4 percent reservation for Meitei Pangal is implemented only in professional courses and Government jobs.
However, as the reservation policy does not extend to higher education/general education (non-professional courses), chances of pangal getting admission in General Higher Education institutions is very low, he added.
He then urged the State Government to fulfil their demand without delay.
