Imphal, March 26 2021:
Four major civil society bodies of the state had lambasted the 24 hours total shut down called by the Kuki Students Organisation (KSO) in connection with the demand for revocation of the decision by the state government in connection with the Any Kuki Tribal (AKT) .
The four major CSOs namely , Federation of Haomee, International Meitei Forum , Kabui Union Manipur and the People's Action for New Development Steps said that the KO needs to know their locus standi before embarking on any misadventures of clamping so called total shutdown in kuki dominated areas.
The four CSOs questions on whether the so called Any Kukis Tribes are citizen of India or not under the Citizenship Act 1955 and other later acts as amended from time to time.
The CSOs also question on whether the AKT are local natives/ indigenous people of the state of Manipur or foreigners from Burma/ Myanmar , under the Foreigners' Act 1948 and such other later acts amended from time to time.
The statement jointly signed by leaders of the four CSOs said that Foreigners and illegal immigrants do not have the right to stage demonstrations, shoutdowns and clamping threats to the native indigenous inhabitants to claim constitutional safeguards and facilities like the ST status , land ownership etc.
"Rather than doing so any kuki tribes need to be met with call for expulsion from the soil of the state for illegal intrusion into the state , by the indigenous tribes of the state such as Meiteis, Tangkhuls, Kabuis, Maring etc", the statement added.
