Ukhrul, July 01 2011:
Tangkhul Naga Wungnao Long (TNWL/Tangkhul Naga Chiefs'/Headmen's Association) has expressed strong resentment over the issues of proposed amendment of Village Authorities Act 2010, setting up of SMDCs and reduction of MNREGS man-days.
In a press release, TNWL President AS Vaomi said that TNWL would oppose the Village Amendment Act of 2010 .
He added, history had already taught to understand and recollect the chaotic state of affairs that previously prevailed in hill areas during the forcibly imposition of alien system/culture on tribals in 1956, which was outrightly rejected by the hill people due to non-applicability in the society and culture of the hill people.
As Vaomi added that giving power to run School Management and Development Committees (SMDCs) to teaching staff by excluding representation from the respective villages in the administration would not serve the wishes and expectations of the people, especially in Ukhrul district.
Sensing such scenario, the President said, TNWL demands the competent authority to hand over the charge of SMDCs to Village Education Committees (VEC), which is comparatively considered to be more feasible, palpable and effective in implementing such a noble cause.
VA Vaomi further alleged that the State Government provided work under MGNREGS for 88 days only in the district for the year 2010-2011 .
He urged the job card holders not to accept the first instalment of 2011-2012 until the previous dues are cleared.
