In a huge success of the state police, Porompat Police in Imphal East district on Tuesday arrested three non Manipuris from Malegaon, Guwahati who went missing after duping more than ' 3 crore by opening a fake shop under the name Mithuna Traders in Imphal .
The three imposters were K Muthuraman (41) son of Karuppaiyum, K Subramaniam (37) son of late Korbaya from Thiruchitrambalam in Tanjaveer district of Tamil Nadu and K Thatchina Moorthi (29) son of Late Kumaraval from Mankata in Alangudi Talak Puddukotai district, Tamil Nadu.
Producing the three imposters who duped the huge amount from the people of the state, Imphal East SP Clay Khongsai said that the three with K Mathuraman in lead opened a shop named Mithuna Traders in a rented room at Minuthong Telipati Road in November last year.
They collected a huge amount from the ignorant people of the state by promising to provide them daily commodities at a cheaper rate.
They stayed for about two months collecting more and more money by telling the customers to wait as their products would be arriving soon.
After collecting the huge amount the trio went missing on January 3 this year.
Since then Porompat police after registering an FIR has been searching for the trio.
On receiving report about a similar kind of shop in Malegaon under the name of Sarwana Traders.
Police had been closely watching the traders since then.
A police team led by Inspector K Gitachandra, OC Porompat Police went there on June 26 and arrested the trio from the Charali area of Malegaon.
They admitted that they opened the fake shop under one Sheikh Shahid Mohammed Ali (43).SP Clay Khongsai appealed to the victims of the trio who lost their money to come to police station and help solve the case.
He also said that police will take up verification work of tenants who are living in rented rooms and houses in Imphal areas as a precautionary measure to prevent such events from occuring again.
The verification process will be done from July 1 to 10 .
