Minister's worker hacked to death

Imphal, June 16 2011:
Moirangthem Shyamo (56), said to be an active worker of Works Minister K Ranjit was hacked to death in a brutal manner last night around 8.30 pm at Chairel Lamkhai Thongkhong under Sugnu PS.
He succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital, a report said.
Family members of Shyamo said he was attacked by miscreants on his way back home after he had seen off his visiting elder sister Borkeina who lives in Pangaltabi.
When he reached Chairel Lamkhai Thongkhong, some persons armed with machetes and sticks, attacked him.
He was first beaten up and then hacked with machetes inflicting multiple injuries, and then abandoned, the family alleged.
Locals of the nearby village tried to evacuate him to a hospital in Imphal in a Tata Magic but the assailants reappeared and prevented them from doing so.
They asked the villagers to leave the scene.
On hearing the news, family members rushed to the spot and rushed him to a hospital but he breathed his last on the way, the family members said.
The family suspects earlier enmity to be behind the murder.
They recalled that Shyamo's younger brother was also recently attacked by unidentified men and is still being treating at JNIMS.
Further, they said Shyamo was an active worker of Works minister K Ranjit.
A controversy over a contract work for construction of a community hall could have been behind the attacks on Shyamo and his brother, the family hinted.
They pointed out some main suspects in the murder as Nongmaithem Shinghajit, N Kumar, N Iboton, N Koireng, N Ibomcha, N Somorjit, N Ngoubi, N Thambou, N Chandramani, S Inaochaoba, all residents of Chairel Lamkhai.
