Imphal, September 15 2019: Many quarters have raised questions on whether financial mismanagement has plagued the Manipur State Dental Registration Tribunal which was set up to pave way for establishment of Manipur State Dental Council.

State Government established the dental tribunal in 2013 by appointing one Registrar and four members.

Since its establishment, around 700 dentists have been registered with the tribunal, sources informed.

For registration with the tribunal, a dentist is charged registration fee of Rs 1200. Out of this registration fee, Rs 300 should be paid to the Dental Council of India while the tribunal should keep the remaining Rs 900.If 700 dentists have been registered with the tribunal, it can be assumed that Rs 630,000 is in possession of the tribunal.

However, it is highly questionable how the total amount accrued from registration of dentists is being managed, said the sources.

According to the guidelines of the Dental Council of India, Manipur State Dental Council should be set up within five years of setting up the Manipur State Dental Registration Tribunal.

One primary duty of the tribunal is to approve or reject dentist, as the case may be, from practising their profession.

Manipur already has a Dental College and as such it is quite imperative to set up Manipur State Dental Council, said the sources.

As it has been more than five years since the Manipur State Dental Registration Tribunal was established, the Dental Council of India has been urging the State to set up Manipur State Dental Council.

Establishment of Manipur State Dental Council would enable registered dentists to deliver quality dental service to patients.

The dental council would help registered dentists to refresh their knowledge and learn new ideas from time to time, the sources added.
