Kamjong Division Forest set to plant 85,000 saplings this year

The DFO of Kamjong district S W Suisa stated that at least 85,000 sapling is targeted for plantation for the year 2020-21 in the district as part of Van Mahotsava celebration.
The Deputy Commissioner of Kamjong district Zuringla Kengoo launched the week long celebration by planting a tree sapling as chief guest of the 71st Van Mahotsava celebration at Chassad police station, Kamjong in the presence of SP Kamjong Ningam Siro, SDO HL Jain, DFO, ROs and other district level officers.
DFO S W Suisa said that Kamjong Forest Division has already arranged 85000 seedling/saplings for the 71st Van Mahotsava celebration in the district.
The plant species like Machelia Champaca, compacta, cherry plants, wild apple, bamboo etc favourable to Kamjong climatic condition would be distributed free of cost.
Any individual(s), organizations, group, villages willing to partake in the plantation drive can apply by logging on to the portal website of State Forest Department.
He went on mentioned that the selected plant saplings can be grown in a high altitude region like Kamjong.
Amongst them are avenue trees, decorative plants for roadside and compound plantation.
Meanwhile SP, Kamjong S Ningam expressed the need of protecting and nurturing the saplings to grow fully.
The peripheries of Chassad police station was planted with phoebe plants on the inauguration day of Van Mahotsav.
The programme was jointly organised by Kamjong Forest Division, Kamjong District Administration and Chassad police station.
